Former Police Officer and Army Veteran Launches Erase Yo Record™ to Help Individuals Who Have a Criminal Record in Harris County Understand Expungement and Record Sealing. 

Shawn Lacy uses faith, lived experience, and justice-system knowledge to help people seek a fresh start.

HOUSTON, TEXAS

Shawn Lacy aka Mz Officer, a U.S. Army veteran, former police officer, and founder of Erase Yo Record™, is using her personal journey, professional background, and passion for justice to help individuals who have a criminal record in Harris County better understand the process of expunging or sealing their records.

Through Erase Yo Record™, Lacy provides educational tools, step-by-step guidance, and community-centered support for individuals who may be trying to move forward after a past arrest, dismissed case, completed program, probation, deferred adjudication, conviction, or other justice-system involvement connected to Harris County.

“I know what it feels like to need a second chance,” Lacy said. “I know what it feels like to look at your past and wonder if it is always going to follow you. But I also know that knowledge can open doors, and sometimes people just need somebody to show them where to begin.”

Lacy’s work is deeply personal. Raised in Houston’s Fifth Ward, she has seen how poverty, trauma, addiction, violence, and lack of guidance can affect a person’s life. Her heart for justice was also shaped by the pain of her baby brother’s murder and another brother being sentenced to 32 years in prison as a first-time offender.

Those experiences, along with her service in the military and law enforcement, gave Lacy a unique view of the justice system from many sides. She has worn the uniform, served the community, and also understands how close a person can come to being swallowed by the same system they are trying to survive.

“There was a time when my own pill addiction could have taken me down a different road,” Lacy said. “I could have ended up arrested, jailed, or even in prison, but God kept me. That is why I do not look down on people. I know how close life can get. I know how fast things can change.”

Instead of using her background to judge people, Lacy uses it to educate, empower, and guide them.

Through Erase Yo Record™, individuals can learn how to review their criminal record, understand possible eligibility for expungement or nondisclosure, gather needed information, complete required paperwork, and take the first steps toward a fresh start.

Lacy emphasized that Erase Yo Record™ is not a law firm, and does not provide legal advice. The mission is educational and designed to help people better understand the process for themselves.

“I am not an attorney,” Lacy said. “I do not give legal advice. What I do is teach people what I have learned. I help them understand the process, the paperwork, the steps, and the importance of knowing what is on their record. A lot of people qualify for relief, but they do not even know where to start.”

Many people carry criminal records for years without realizing they may have options. Some believe they must hire an attorney before they can even begin. Others are afraid to ask questions because of shame, confusion, or fear of being judged.

“That is one of the biggest reasons I created Erase Yo Record™,” Lacy said. “People should not have to stay stuck just because they do not understand the system. They should not have to walk around with doors closed in their face when there may be a legal way to move forward.”

For Lacy, this work is about more than paperwork. It is about restoring hope, dignity, opportunity, and access to information that many people never receive.

“A criminal record can feel like a wall,” she said. “It can block employment, housing, licenses, education, and even confidence. But when a person learns that there may be a way to remove or seal that record, it gives them something they may not have had in a long time, hope.”

Lacy said her mission is rooted in helping everyday people, especially those who may not have the money to hire an attorney but still want to understand their rights, their record, and their options.

“I do this because I care about the people who usually get overlooked,” Lacy said. “The ones who made mistakes. The ones who changed. The ones who completed probation, got their cases dismissed, finished programs, or tried to turn their lives around but still have a record following them.”

Through her work, Lacy wants people to understand that a past mistake does not have to be a life sentence. She also wants people to know that clearing a record is not just about legal paperwork. It is about dignity, rebuilding, and the chance to move forward without being forever defined by the past.

“This is heart work for me,” Lacy said. “It is justice work. It is ministry. It is me taking everything I have survived, everything God brought me through, everything I learned as a soldier, a police officer, and a woman who knows what struggle feels like, and using it to help somebody else get free.”

Erase Yo Record™ aims to make the expungement and record-sealing process easier to understand for individuals who have a criminal record in Harris County and are ready to take the first step toward a new beginning.

“My goal is to make the process easier to understand,” Lacy said. “I want people to stop being afraid of their records. I want them to learn what is on there, learn what they may qualify for, and take the first step toward their fresh start.”

For Lacy, helping people erase or seal their records is more than a business. It is personal.

“I believe people deserve a second chance,” she said. “And sometimes that second chance starts with someone saying, ‘Let me show you how to begin.’”
